1. What is the Ojai Yoga Crib?
The Ojai Yoga Crib is a gathering of some of the top yoga teachers and nicest yoga practioners in
the country in one of the most beautiful places in the country, Ojai. Yoga practioners of all levels have the opportunity to practice with these teachers at some of the sweetest spots in the Valley over the last weekend in October. This is our sixth year hosting the event and we hope you will join us.
2. What does Crib mean?
We picked “Crib” to describe the event because we liked the
idea of a safe
nurturing place in which to grow and play and practice with your friends.
The arms of the Padre National Forrest cradle the valley in a crib-like
way, nurturing and supporting our practice. Usually gatherings of this sort
take place in ballrooms of giant hotels in urban centers and are called yoga
conferences.
3. How does it work?
You pick 5 teachers from the list of 14. You will then take five 2.5-hour
workshops over the course of the weekend at various locations with your
chosen teachers. The Crib Headquarters will be right in the middle of
town
at the Ojai Women's Center. Many venues are within walking distance from
there. We will provide transportation to the venues that are not 'in'
town. So once in Ojai, you do not need a car.
4. What is the schedule?
The Crib kicks off Friday morning with your first workshop at 9:30am.
The
workshops last 2.5 hours. We have a break between 12 and 2:15 for lunch with your afternoon workshop starting at 2:30pm. Friday and Saturday Nights we will gather for special events. Saturday and Sunday Mornings, we will
come together for meditation.
The Crib ends at 12pm on Sunday after your last yoga workshop.
5. Is it just for advanced yoga students?
No. While some yoga experience is recommended (6 months of regular
practice), all these teachers are skilled at presenting workshops that
will
be digestible and inspiring for all levels. Five 2.5-hour workshops over
the course of a weekend can sound intimidating, but within the workshops
and among the various teachers, the physical practice will be mixed with breath work, meditation, chanting and dharma talks. So you do not have to “get
in shape” for the weekend. Just show up with an open heart and all
will follow.
6. Can I just take a few classes, or do I need to do the
whole thing?
The Crib is a complete experience and it is not possible to take classes
a
la carte. We sell one ticket. If you then choose to only take some of
your
classes, that is at your discretion, but no refund or discount will be
granted.
7. Can I take all my classes with the same teacher?
No. Part of the design and fun of the Crib is to practice with different wonderful teachers. Also, to help ensure that everybody gets to take with the teachers
they want, each student is only allowed one workshop with each teacher.
8. I don’t know all those teachers, how do I pick?
This year we are trying to make it easier to pick your teachers by offering "teacher hands" and describing the likely experience. But we are more than happy to help you pick teachers that are perfect for
you. This is a great way to get to know you. Reading their bios and checking out their websites will help, but give
us a call and we can tailor a schedule that will best suit your practice. Breath easy, and know that there are no bad choices.
9. What about food?
Food is not included in the price of the ticket. However, Farmer
and the
Cook will be setting up shop in Crib Headquarters and serving up their
hot
delicious chai, fresh squeezed OJ, homemade organic muffins and
birdfeeders in the morning and fresh yummy salads and hot soups for lunch.
Bring cash.
10. What about accommodations?
Accommodations are not included in the price of your ticket. If you are
local and interested in hosting a yogi from out of town, let us know!
If
you are coming from out of town, there is a list of local accommodations
on our site and a Chat Section to help you find a
home to stay in.
