Overcoming distraction

Today was one of those days where the need to practice right NOW was permeating my every thought so I grabbed my mat and rolled it out. I usually wait until my son is sleeping to practice...either really early or really late. Right as I set my mat down my son peed on it. We are in the middle of potty communication. Sometimes he forgets to tell me. After the clean up, and the hesitation that maybe this wasn't a good idea at the moment, I decided to keep on with it. He practiced right alongside me. It was great to see which poses he gravitated towards. In double pigeon, he plunked right down in the middle of my legs nestling right in close. He wanted to nestle in my legs during lunge. While he was moving and playing alongside me I found that I was still able to drop in pretty deep for the stillness of the poses. It has taken me awhile to come to the realization that practicing doesn't have to be done in a quiet soothing atmosphere all the time. It can be done among the everyday hustle and bustle. Even with all the distractions the yoga still does it's work.
