Why make it more difficult?

The Work to Relax

I was skyping with a dear one this morning and he was saying: I wish I could have a job that's more relaxing--like teaching yoga. I smiled and said, yeah... Well, it takes a lot of diligence to be relaxed. I have to return to my own practice again and again to relax into the moments as they come. There is always something fresh that awaits if you are available to meet it; and the more relaxed you learn to be, the more available you are. Read more »

Yoga for Neck Tension

Lately I have been releasing a lot of tension from my shoulders and neck, and since I have been practicing being my own "yogi scientist," I will consider my first hand experience to be valid research material. One exercise I have found particularly useful is using a round bouncy ball, called "Pinky," which I got form the toy store in town. I use it against a wall and roll it up and down the space between my shoulder blades and spine. I have also found there is no replacement for self-massage and a generous number of shoulder and neck circles in the morning. Read more »
