Too Much Yin?

Is there such thing as too much yin? I've practiced every night for the past three nights (on to number four tonight) compared to my usual one to two times a week. I've noticed my sleep has increased dramatically. Some 13 or 10hr nights. My body feels great as yin is the perfect counter balabce to my summer activity. However, I wake up still feeling the yin vibe and could easily stay in bed longer. So I'm interested to know if anyone is familiar with this or would like to share their experiance.

Thank you for your post NIco. I've asked myself the same question..is there such a thing as too much yin?

Excess and addiction are familiar and fascinating territories for me, particularly as it applies to a yoga practice. Kira has mentioned in several classes the ayurvedic approach, "the only difference between medicine and poison is simply dosage".

One of the many benefits from a yin practice for me is that this particular practice helps me map my internal world for dosage. For me there is a distinct feeling tone to excess and addictive tendencies, and when I feel myself moving towards them, I back off, right there on the mat, right there in the middle of a yin practice. The yoga practice, and particularly the yin practice has been one of my primary teachers in my challenge with addiction, and has helped me find internal peace, and sense of contentment and fullness, in a world that formerly was all about more, more, and more.

For me and where I'm at right now, I don't feel there is too much yin, because I've found my internal 'stop' which has protected my body (and for that matter, my heart.). But this is an intensly personal experience and I cannot speak for any body or any practice other than my own.

As you've described, I've felt the yin vibe beyond the practice. It has helped me feel grounded well beyond the mat, and I sleep on a regular basis between 8 and 10 hours per night. I feel the yin practice has effected my central nervous system, for the postive, allowing me to feel ease, safety, and contentment on a more regular basis than before yin become part of my life.

I hope this helps, and feel free to contact me offline if you'd like to discuss further.
