Yogis Connecting

Yoga, from the root "Yuj", means to join, or to connect. Coming together is our Yoga. We look forward to the Crib because of who it brings closer.

Common Questions

The Crib is not like any other yoga event, so if you are new, it is likely that you have some questions. Below we have done our best to answer the usual ones. Do not hesitate to connect in.

Why is it called the Crib?

The arms of the Padre National Forest cradle the Ojai Valley in a crib-like way, nurturing and supporting our practice.

Is it just for advanced yoga students?

No. While some yoga experience is recommended (6 months of regular practice), all these teachers are skilled at presenting workshops that will be digestible and inspiring for all levels.

Five 2.5-hour workshops over the course of a weekend can sound intimidating, but within the workshops and among the various teachers, the physical practice will be mixed with breath work, meditation, chanting and dharma talks. So you do not have to “get in shape” for the weekend. Just show up with an open heart and all will follow.

It is possible to come to the Crib and not do a single asana. Let us know if you want to be on this track.

How do I choose my teachers?

Read all about the teachers and follow their links to learn more about them.
If you are uncertain, connect in and we can help you match up with the right teachers for you.
When registering, you will select your classes.
Once you have purchased your ticket, your schedule will appear in your Garden Profile. Through your Garden Profile, you will be able to access updated schedule details as we get closer to the event.
You will pick up your ticket and registration packet at Crib HQ when you get to Ojai.

What are the Class Sizes?

Class sizes range from 20 to 80 depending on the venue and teachers. We do our best to handcraft the schedule to ensure a combination of intimate close practices along side full vibrant high octane gatherings.

Can I just take a few classes, or do I need to do the whole thing?

The Crib is a complete experience and it is not possible to take classes a la carte during the Main Event.

We sell three different tickets: The Crib Weekend+ Immersion, The Crib Weekend, Immersion Only.

If you then choose to only take some of your classes while here, that is at your discretion, but no refund or discount will be granted.

Can I take all my classes with the same teacher?

With the exception of Erich Schiffmann and Saul David Raye who will have limited space, you can study with your favorite teacher as much as s/he is teaching. And we encourage you to explore and meet new teachers. We can help you pick the teachers that might best suit you. Just connect in.

I am coming with a group of friends, can our schedules be coordinated?

Of course! First step is to sign up for the same classes when you register. If you have trouble with this, or the group is extra large, connect in and we can help you.

How soon should I sign up?

The last eight years of the Crib have been full. We reccommend securing your spot early and making accommodation arrangements.

What is the Crib

The International Ojai Yoga Crib is a yoga pilgrimage. This will be our 9th year gathering together from around the world. Built on the rich Spiritual Tradition of the Ojai Valley, the yoga sessions, meditations, and evening events take place in some of the most historically significant and sacred spots throughout the Valley.

How the Crib Works

Crib Headquarters (Crib HQ) sits in the middle of our event. This is where you will register, eat delicious organic food from the Farmer and the Cook, drink chai, and connect. From here, you will walk to or catch a bus to your yoga sessions.
If you stay in town, you will not need a car as many of the venues are within walking distance of Crib HQ. We use school busses and sometimes organize carpools to transport you to the workshops that happen at the venues in the hills.
You are responsible for making your own accommodation arrangements.

Pilgrimage to Ojai

Ojai is located in Southern California, about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles and 45 minutes southeast of Santa Barbara. Yogis travel from as far away as Shanghi, the UK, Canada and Peru for the Crib. Some just have to walk out their front door.

What is the Schedule?

Yogis begin arriving in Ojai as early as Monday of the Crib Weekend to slip into the mood of Ojai. If you are participating in an Immersion, we suggest arriving on Wednesday. If you are joining us for the Crib Weekend, we suggest arriving Thursday. If you are not coming from very far, of course you are able to arrive the morning of the event. Allow enough time to register and check in.

How do I get to Ojai?

Nearest Airports

  • The Santa Barbara Aiport is the most conveinent, restful and usually most highly priced airport to fly into.
  • Burbank Airport, aka "The Bob Hope Airport," is a sweet spot to land. About 15 minutes closer to Ojai than LAX, the tone of the airport is much groovier. Jet Blue flys into here.
  • LAX, just south of Santa Monica in Los Angeles, usually has the best deals. Virgin America is one of our favorites.

Please Visit "Getting Here" for more detailed information on transportation from airports, maps, ride shares and the lack of public transportation options.

What do I need to Bring?

The Weather

Late October in the desert of Southern California is usually warm and sunny during the day and chilly at night. And the weather patterns have been changing with continual surprises. We reccommend bringing layers and a raincoat just in case. If you like to hike, bring the right shoes. There are many wonderful accessible scenic trails.

Props

Bring any yoga props that you anticipate needing. If a teacher requires you to use props, these will be available. Otherwise, props will not be provided at any of the venues.

Where do I stay?

Yogis stay all over the valley in a variety of hotels, retreat centers, spas, and at campsites. Please visit our Accommodation Page to find the right spot for you. Connect in if you would like assistance.

Do You have any Scholarships?

Yes. We offer 5 partial and 5 full scholarships. Please fill in the application that will be posted shortly.

Do You have any Volunteer Positions?

The Crew of Yogis that come together to host the event is key to the success of the Crib. The work is difficult and so enjoyable that members of our team travel from across the country to be a part of the Crew every year. If you are interested in joining us, please fill in the application which will be posted shortly.
