The sanskrit word "abhyasa" translates as diligent attentive practice. The dance partner of abhyasa is "viaragya," suggesting surrender. Effortlessness takes practice, and Sutra 1.12 (abhyasa vairagyabhyam tat nirodhah) of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras reminds us that both are required in equal parts.
