In this video clip, as the class folds forward, Paul Grilley presents the theory that the two most important postures in yoga are Caterpillar Pose, Paschimottanasana, and Saddle Pose, Supta Virasana. They directly affect the areas that we tend to be most timid about: the hips, sacrum and back. He recommends gentle relaxed persistent practice of these two poses.

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to experience master teacher Paul Grilley.  Loved that he said seated forward fold is one of the most important poses in all of yoga.  It is my favorite pose.  I am sorry the video did not also include having him lead a backbend.

Hi Deanna, keep watching! He leads Saddle Pose in one of the following clips!  xok

Troubleshooting Video Playback Mischief

  • Download the latest version of Firefox and restart your computer.
  • Download the latest Flash Player.
  • A slow connection will affect video playback. Allowing the video to "load" before viewing can help smooth this out. Here are the steps:
    - Press "Play" and allow the video to roll for a few moments.
    - Then, press "Pause" and allow the video to "load" before hitting "Play" again.
    - You will know the video is "loading" as the bar to the right of the play button darkens gray.
    - This will also give you the option to scroll forward and back more easily.
  • Report Problem to the Help Duck.
