This footage is from a 3 day Workshop in July 2007 with Chase Bossart titled, 'Patanjali & Ishvara: The Yogasutras on God, Worship & What Happens'.

In this video clip, Chase details Sutra 1.24, making the following points:

  • Sutra 1.24: klesha karma vipaka ashayaih aparamristah purusha-vishesha ishvara
  • Ishvara is a special purusha because he is not affected by the kleshas and karma
  • Therefore he never had any misperception or suffered
  • Reference of the Kleshas in Chapter 2

The format is a lecture and there is some audience participation. Please keep in mind that this is just a clip from a 3 day workshop, and not all topics presented will feel as flushed out as they were in the workshop. We really like Chase's practicality and humor. He is a terrific teacher and devoted to the study of yoga.

Chase has been studying yoga as a personal student of Mr. TKV Desikachar for the past 18 years. During that time he has made numerous trips to Chennai to study at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) with Mr. Desikachar and his son Kausthub.

Chase’s primary job includeds applying yoga for therapeutic purposes at the Healing Yoga Foundation. He also teaches regular āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation and vedic chanting classes.

His home base is San Francisco.

Troubleshooting Video Playback Mischief

  • Download the latest version of Firefox and restart your computer.
  • Download the latest Flash Player.
  • A slow connection will affect video playback. Allowing the video to "load" before viewing can help smooth this out. Here are the steps:
    - Press "Play" and allow the video to roll for a few moments.
    - Then, press "Pause" and allow the video to "load" before hitting "Play" again.
    - You will know the video is "loading" as the bar to the right of the play button darkens gray.
    - This will also give you the option to scroll forward and back more easily.
